SUPP President to Stay On to Lead

The Central Working Committee of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) have decided that the Party President, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam shall continue to be the Party President during its meeting yesterday.

Despite a motion by Engkilili branch asking the Party President to step down step as promised in 2006, the top leaders pledged unanimous support for him to defend the president's post.

Senator Datuk Sim Kheng Hui said that we want him to continue heading SUPP and we will forward this decision to the Triennial Delegates Conference. The CWC has the right to make such a recommendation and we feel that the focus should be rejuvenating the party instead of on the person who is to lead. We would explain the matter to the delegates, hoping that they would understand and accept the decision during the two days conference.

SUPP will hold its Trennial DelegatesConference on 13th & 14th December 2008 at SUPP Headquarter.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will be opening the Conference.

Action please, Chong!

SUPP Party Vice President Lily Yong, too, yesterday expressed her extreme dismay at DAP Sarawak Secretary, Chong Chieng Jen as well as an MP for Bandar Kuching Parliament over his remark of saying SUPP should close down by failing to pay up the settlement of RM3million to Global Upline Sdn Bhd for the completion of SJK Chung Hua No 2.

She said, "SUPP has been there for 49 years old and I admit that we have our weaknesses in this matter but at least we are trying out best to make the school relocation project a reality, and we are still working hard on it. Although we are still not happy with some of the policies and system, we have make efforts for a change and whas has Chong done? He should not grab such opportunity by using the sentiment of the people to ask us to close down."

She pointed out that the party had had enough of his "cheap publicity" by using his lips service by hitting out on SUPP on several issues as a way to gain his political mileage.

Chong should stop creating issues, he should play a role to help to raise funds to meet the cost of the school project since he is an MP and YB as well as a member of the school's board of management.

Dr Chan questions Chong's Contibution to Chinese Schools

SUPP President Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan was again furious with DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen for his endless verbal triades about SUPP Party commitment to Chinese Schools during his criticism toward SUPP in a chinese daily news after Global Upline Sdn Bhd had withheld and padlocked the new SJK Chung Hua No 2 at Stutuong until the settlement of RM 3million. Chong attacked by saying that SUPP should close shop since they can't settled the amount.
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan then questioned Chong of where is his committments and contributions to Chinese Schools as a Bandar Kuching Parliament MP. Does Chong not has any responsibility towards SJK Chung Hua No 2 which was located in his constituency?
SUPP had already raised about RM2million to cover the cost and they are still working hard to raise the balance which has been difficult due to the current economic situation. But Tan Sri assured parents that the school will open in time next year.
The school's management committee had long decided that the school ought to relocated and SUPP helped them to acquire a 3.5 acre site at Stutong. The new school is expected to accommodate up to 1600 pupils.

Dr Chan hits out at opposition

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan can't longer kept silent and vehemently attacked the opposition member for making wild allegations, unsubstantiated statements and twisting facts to mislead the people against SUPP, BN and the government on any issue during his winding-up speech at the DUN.

"We should have the political will to minimise politicking and put our hearts and minds together in bringing changes, improvement and progress to Sarawak but the opposition always put the blame and pointing fingers on SUPP on almost any issue which SUPP have alway managing to deliver and bring people of all races the development, yet they are quick to hoodwink the people to publicly claim as theirs",said Dr Chan.

He said that the people are now living in challenging times with global crisis that was bound to affect the economy and it's the time for better coperation and working harder together in bringing changes, improvement and progress for the well-being of the people, the state and country, and this is certainly unhealthy to waste of precious time in the august house just o hurl criticisms and blame SUPP.

Price Floor for Cigarettes
The government plans to impose a price floor for all cigarettes as part of efforts to check smoking habits especially among youths, children and low income earners to keep them off cigarette addiction and preventing the risk of drug abuse by protecting the younger generation by reducing their accessibility to cigarettes.
Despite the price increased many times, still the smokers are hard to rid their habits of smoking. Is that smoking gives them very expressive engery?
